1825 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Stocks
George IV, dated September 2 1825. 16ins by 16ins wide. 1825 Silkwork Sampler by Jane Stocks. Framed in a modern, carved wood frame with glass.

Stitched to linen and stretched over card, with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours gold, dark brown, cream and light green.
Verse reads
'With passions unruffled unturned? with pride by ??asur
my life let me square the ?ant? of my nature are
cheapley supplied and the rest are but folly and care'.
Signed and dated
'Jane Stocks her sampler September the 2 1825 Aged 11 Years'.
A good set of motifs, including two horse and rider with sun above, dogs,
birds, flowers, fruit baskets,
fir trees,
crowns, angels
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes.
One small pull to the ground.
Two stains.
Stitch losses to the verse and signature.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
Colour run around the dark brown threads.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
