1803 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Main

George III, dated August 3 1803. 12.75ins by 11.75ins wide. 1803 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Main. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours dark green, cream, dark brown, copper, gold, light blue and magenta.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10.

Signed and dated

'A??? August 3 1803 Mary Main'.

Motifs include a church flanked by trees

and hearts.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

Several holes.

Loss along the bottom edge.

Slight patchy staining throughout.

Some stitch loss to the church 'flag'.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
