William IV, dated 1836. 15.5ins by 12.75ins wide. 1836 Silkwork Sampler by Selina David.
Framed in an old, burr maple frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours dark brown, cream, red, green, navy blue, pale blue, light brown, copper, gold, light green, pink and magenta.
Verse reads
'Dare not to act the guilty part,
For God beholds the inmost heart,
And searches all thy ways;
Thy interest is to seek his face,
Thy duty to implore his grace,
And serve him all thy days.'.
Signed and dated
'Selina David, aged, 15, 1836.'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including a house flanked by trees,
with a dog
and a cat recumbent on a cushion on either side.
Stars,
birds,
flowers,
hearts,
crowns,
angels
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
A few holes.
No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.
The silks bright and glossy.
No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
