Large 1833 Sampler by Hannah Brown
Victorian, dated August 8th 1833. 26ins high by 21ins wide. Large 1833 Sampler by Hannah Brown.
Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in wool and silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border, and divider lines in various patterns.
Colours red, cream, yellow, green, pale blue, light brown, copper, light green, white and black.
Verses read
'Thee I can love and thee alone
With pure delight and inward bliss
to know takst me for thine own
O what a happiness is this'.
'Nothing on earth do I desire
But thy pure love within my breast
This only this will I require
And freely give up all the rest'.
'Seek virtue and of that possest . Henceforth to God resign the rest'.


Signed and dated
'Hannah Browns work finished August 8th 1833'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including large potted flowering plant,
flowers and birds.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
A few stains and slight patchy staining of the ground.
Some stitch losses to the top line of the border and the large central flower motif.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
Colour run around the dark green and black threads.

Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
