1763 Silkwork Alphabet Sampler

George III, dated 1763. 12ins by 7.5ins wide. 1763 Silkwork Alphabet Sampler. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

No border,

divider lines in various patterns.

Colours magenta, cream, pale blue, gold, olive green and black.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case, numbers 1-3,

and family initials.

Dated 1763.

A few motifs including birds, peacocks, a dog, stag,

flowers and crowns.

CONDITION: Fair.

Several holes.

Patchy staining, particularly in the top left corner.

No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.

Colours are faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
