1860 Sampler by Anne Eliza Dawson

Victorian, dated 1860. 10.25ins by 9ins wide. 1860 Sampler by Anne Eliza Dawson. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and rippled, old glass.

Taped to the gilt slip with card backing.

The sampler is worked in cotton on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Zig zag border.

Colours light brown and dark brown.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-19.

Aphorism reads

'Remember thy Creator in

the days of thy youth'.

Signed and dated

'Anne Eliza Dawson aged 10 years 1860'.

CONDITION: Generally good. No holes.

A few pale stains.

No stitch losses.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Some restitching to the alphabets and aphorism.

Stretching is slightly uneven. Sampler is not vertically central.

Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and could be hung 'as is'.
