William IV, dated 1831. 8.5ins by 9.25ins wide. Small 1831 Silkwork Sampler by S Anne Fothergill.
Framed in an old, possibly original, black, ebonised wood frame with rippled, old glass.
Stitched to satin edging and loose mounted onto card with chipboard backing dust cover.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Embroidered border.
Colours black, cream, light green and dark green.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-14.
Signed and dated
'S Anne Fothergill June 14th 1831.'.
Two floral motifs.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
A number of small holes.
Patchy stains and specks throughout.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and ready to hang.
