1888 Woolwork Sampler by Mary Heslop
Victorian, dated 1888. 11ins by 8ins wide. 1888 Woolwork Sampler by Mary Heslop. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.
Stitched to linen and loose mounted with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering line and zig zag borders.
Colours bright pink, blue, olive green, pink, yellow and red. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-4. Signed and dated
'MARY HESLOP OLD HUNWICK age 13 in the year 1888'. Hunwick is a place in Durham, England.
A few motifs including crowns and various shapes.
CONDITION: Generally Good. One hole.
No stains. Very minor stitch loss to the border.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Colour run around the olive green and yellow threads.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame showing slight wear, and the back is slightly loose.
Otherwise sound and ready to hang.
