1817 Silkwork Sampler by A H R

George III, dated 1817. 13ins by 11ins wide. 1817 Silkwork Sampler by A H R. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Stitched to material and loose mounted onto card, with card backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Floral and zig zag border.

Colours green, cream, light brown, black, gold and magenta.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case, numbers 1-20 and family initials.

Signed with initials 'A H R'

and dated 1817.

A few motifs including birds,

a stag,

potted flowering plant,

flower,

ewer

and tree.

CONDITION: Fair.

A number of small holes.

Patchy staining.

Some stitch losses to the family initials.

Colours are slightly faded and have some recent retouching of colour to some threads, part illustrated.

No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
