1808 Silkwork Sampler by Elizabeth Morris
George III, dated 1808. 17ins by 9.5ins wide. 1808 Silkwork Sampler by Elizabeth Morris. Framed in an old, possibly original, thick mahogany frame with gilt slip and glass.

Stitched to canvas with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.
No border.
Colours magenta, cream, blue, pale blue, dark brown, gold, pink, light green, dark green and copper.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-18.
Signed and dated
'Elizabeth Morris Aged 12 Years 1808'.
A good set of motifs, including crowns with initials,
diamonds, butterflies, birds,
flowers,
a fruit basket
and squirrels.
CONDITION: Very Good.
No holes.
No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.
No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and ready to hang.
