1823 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Sankey

George IV, dated 1823. 16.25ins by 12.5ins wide. 1823 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Sankey. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Stitched to linen and stretched over acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering floral leafy border.

Colours dark green, cream, blue, green, copper, gold, light green, dark brown and black. Verses read

'Jesus prmit thy gracious

Name to stand:as the fir

St effords of my youthfull

Hand and as my fingers> O'er the canvas move

Engage my tender heart to seek th love

With thy dear children may

I have a part and write thy name

thyself upon my heart'.

'Thou lord hast

led thy people

through the deep.

As careful shepher

know thee face

to face'.

A good set of motifs, including a church/temple,

flowers,

fruit trees,

stags,

fruit baskets,

a heart,

birds,

insects and potted flowering plants

. CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes around the edge.

Very slight staining along the bottom edge.

No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. Some colour run around the dark green threads.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
