George I, dated 1725. 15.75ins by 8.5ins wide. 1725 Silkwork Sampler by Rebekah Brown. Framed in an old, possibly original, gilt over wood frame with old glass.

Stitched to linen with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
No border, divider lines in various patterns.
Colours gold, cream, pale blue, magenta, olive green and blue.
Alphabets A-U in upper case and numbers 1-18.
Verses read
'Learning Is an ornement Both
Prophet Pleasure and Content
Vertue Chuse and Vice Refus'.
'Welth May Take Whings and
Riches Flie away But God Is
A Rock That never Will De
cay'.
'This Sampler My name will
Ever have when I am Dead
and Laid In Grave when
Greedy worms my Body eat
Then you may Read my name
compleat'.
' art hath Taught My Fingers
skill to write with out Pen
Ink or Quill'.
Signed and dated
'Made By Me Rebekah 1725 Brown In The 6 Year of Her age'.
A few floral and diamond motifs.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
A few pale, patchy stains and one small, dark stain line.
Very minor stitch losses to the divider lines.
Colours are faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
