1835 Silkwork Sampler by Maria Tilley
William IV, dated October 28 1835. 16ins by 12.5ins wide. 1835 Silkwork Sampler by Maria Tilley. Framed in an old, black stained wood frame with glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours copper, green, dark brown, magenta, gold and dark blue.
Verse reads
'Be Christ my pattern and my guide:
His image may I bear:
O may I tread his sacred steps:
And his bright glory share:'.
Signed and dated
'Maria Tilley October 28, 1835.'.
A good set of motifs, including a house,
butterflies, stars,
birds,
rabbits,
stags,
fruit baskets,
fir trees,
flowers,
a cow,
a windmill,
fleur d'lys motifs
and potted flowering plants.
CONDITION: Good.
One small hole.
One repair.
A number of patchy stains and specks.
No stitch losses.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
