1844 Woolwork Sampler by Maria Gregory

William IV, dated 1844. 17.5ins by 17ins wide. 1844 Woolwork Sampler by Maria Gregory. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass.

Stapled to a chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering floral border.

Colours magenta, green, pale blue, brown, white, pink, olive green and red.

Signed and dated

'1844 Maria Gregory'.

A good set of motifs, including Adam? (a somewhat female looking adam!) & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk,

angels,

flowers,

a large stag,

bird and potted flowering plants.

CONDITION: Very Good.

No holes.

A few stain specks.

Very minor stitch loss to the border.

Colours are good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
