1849 Silkwork Sampler by Elizabeth Ticnor Sanders
Victorian, dated March 12 1849. 16.25ins by 12.75ins wide. 1849 Silkwork Sampler by Elizabeth Ticnor Sanders. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with gilt slip and rippled, old glass.

Loose mounted onto linen with chipboard backing. Hanging hook to the reverse.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Meandering floral border.
Colours green, cream, navy blue, light brown, dark brown, gold and black.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-17.
Verse reads
'Tis religion that can give
Sweetest pleasure while we live
Tis religion must supply
Sollid comfort when we die'.
Signed and dated
'Elizabeth Ticnor Sanders March 12 1849 Aged 12 Years'.
A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden,
dogs,
potted flowering plants, birds,
a fruit basket,
crowns,
flowers
and fir trees.
CONDITION: Good.
A number of small holes.
Slight patchy staining in the top right corner.
Minor stitch losses to the last line of the verse.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
