1813 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Floyd

George III, dated 1813. 12.5ins by 8.25ins wide. 1813 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Floyd. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card, with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

 

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours dark green, cream, pale blue, dark brown, copper, white, pink, black and gold.

Verse reads

'At every trifle scorn to take offence

It always shows great pride and little sence

Good nature and good sence shold ever join

To err is human to forgive devine'.

Signed and dated

'Ann 1813 Floyd'.

A good set of motifs, including a large bowl of flowers, birds,

potted flowering plants,

stags,

an animal,

a squirrel,

hearts,

flowers

and fir trees.

CONDITION: Good.

A few small holes.

A few pale patchy stains.

No stitch losses.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.

No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
