1803 Silkwork Sampler by Charlotte Hopkins

George III, dated 1803. 16.25ins by 11.75ins wide. 1803 Silkwork Sampler by Charlotte Hopkins. Framed in a modern wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral strawberry border.

Colours gold, cream, green, copper, light green and light blue.

Signed and dated

'CHARLOTTE HOPKINS FIN THIS PIECE IN HER 10 YEAR 1803'.

A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden,

birds,

a large rabbit, fir trees,

an animal under a tree,

flowers

and a fruit basket.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

A number of holes.

A few stains, and uniform age darkening of the ground.

No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
