1836 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Spratt

William IV, dated 1836. 12.75ins by 18.25ins wide. 1836 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Spratt. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.

Taped in the corners to card, behind a card mount slip, with card backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours dark green, green, silver, light brown and cream.

Verse reads

'Jesus, thy blood and righteousness

My beauty are, my glorious dress:

Midst flaming worlds in these array'd,

with joy shall I lift up my head.

If thou, my Jesus ,still be nigh,

Cheerful I live , and joyful die;

Secure , when mortal comforts flee,

To find ten thousand worlds in thee.'.

'Ann Spratts , Work , Badgworth. Aged , 12 , Years , 1836.'.

Badgworth is a town in the South West of England.

A good set of motifs, including fruit baskets,

stars,

dogs,

flowers,

butterflies,

potted flowering plants,

diamonds,

stags,

hearts,

crowns,

trees and birds.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes.

A few dark stains around the edge, and a pale stain over the first verse.

No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.

No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
