1823 Sampler by Sarah Winn Bird
George IV, dated 1823. 19ins by 12.5ins wide. 1823 Sampler by Sarah Winn Bird. Framed in an old, restored, wood frame with glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on fine linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours gold, blue, dark green, copper, light green, black and magenta.
Verse reads
'JESUS my mourning soul doth lead
And tells me where my faith must feed
Straight I behold his love divine
And hear him whisper I am thine'.
Signed and dated
'Sarah Winn Birds Work Done In The Year Of Our Lord 1823'.
A wonderful set of finely embroidered motifs, including a lady kneeling beside a tomb,
dogs,
flowers,
a stag,
a tree,
birds, insects
and a fruit basket.
CONDITION: Generally Good. A few small holes, and some thinning of the ground above the verse.
Slight, patchy, uniform age darkening of the ground.
Some stitch losses to the border, verse and motifs.
Colours are all good and strong with only slight fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition. Wire and hooks included for hanging.
