1861 Alphabet Sampler

Victorian, dated 1861. 17.5ins by 14ins wide. 1861 Alphabet Sampler. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Glued around the edges only, to card with wooden slat backing.

The sampler is worked in a cotton-like thread on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple line border.

Colours copper, purple, light green, pale blue and light brown.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case.

Dated '1861'.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. A number of small stains.

No stitch losses.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

One small piece of paper caught behind the glass.

Unevenly stretched.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang, although the back needs some attention.
