1840 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Ann Wilde

Victorian, dated 1840. 18.75ins by 21.25ins wide. 1840 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Ann Wilde. Framed in an old, burr maple frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours gold, cream, green, pale blue, light brown, dark brown, white, black, magenta, copper and dark green.

Verse reads

'And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come

out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which

is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD: and in the eleventh year, was

seven years in building it.'.

Signed and dated

'Sarah Ann Wilde. 1840.'.

Large, detailed motif of Solomon's Temple with birds flying overhead, titled 'A Representation of Solomon's Temple.'.

CONDITION: Good. A number of holes, and some loss of ground in the bottom right corner.

A few small stains, and patchy age darkening above the temple.

Very minor stitch loss to the verse.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.

Very slight colour run around some of the black threads.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in very good condition. Wire and hooks included for hanging.
