1829 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Edmands
George IV, dated 1829. 12.5ins by 12.5ins wide. 1829 Silkwork Sampler by Sarah Edmands. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours dark green, pale blue, light brown, dark brown, copper, white, black, magenta and gold.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-26.
Verse reads
'Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand
As the first efforts of an infants band
And while her fingers on the canvas move
Engage her tender heart to seek thy love'.
Signed and dated
'Sarah . Edmands 11 Years of age 1829'.
A good set of motifs, including a horse,
dogs, birds and flowers.
CONDITION: Good. A few holes.
Two repairs.
No stains other than slight, patchy, uniform age darkening of the ground.
Stitch losses to the border.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition. Wire and hooks included for hanging.
