1833 House Sampler by Margaret Baines
William IV, dated 1833. 16.75ins by 21ins wide. 1833 House Sampler by Margaret Baines. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and rippled old glass.

Fixed to chipboard dust cover using a sticky tape (easily removable).
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Simple embroidered border.
Colours yellow, cream and blue.
Verse reads
'When I on this my sampler gaze
In future sad of happy days
Its Woodbine wreath an cross stich neat
Kind admonition may repeat
The childs achievement then shall be
As pure o future Industry'.
Signed and dated 'Margaret Baineses Specimen Weld Bank School 1833'.
A good set of motifs, including a house with a garden,
birds,
flowers, potted flowering plants,
fir trees,
baskets,
geese,
swans
and butterflies
CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.
Three slight, patchy stains.
No stitch losses, just two loose threads.
Colours are slightly faded. No colour run. Slightly uneven stretching.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound and could be hung 'as is'.
