1802 Silkwork Sampler by Susanah Smith

George III, dated 1802. 15.75ins by 11.25ins wide. 1802 Silkwork Sampler by Susanah Smith. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours gold, cream, olive green, pale blue, copper, black, pink, magenta, blue and dark brown.

A good set of motifs, including a house,

a windmill,

stars,

a lion,

sheep?,

birds,

hearts,

a crown,

flowers

and a potted flowering plant.

CONDITION: Generally good. One small hole in the bottom left corner.

A few pale stain specks, some dark staining in the top left corner, and uniform age darkening in the centre.

Stitch losses to the border, verses and motifs.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy.

Slight colour run around some of the olive green threads.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition.
