1832 Sampler by Jane Peacock
William IV, dated 1832. 16ins by 11.75ins wide. 1832 Sampler by Jane Peacock. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral and fruit border.
Colours dark green, navy blue, light brown, dark brown, light green, gold and cream.
A Verse entitled 'FRIENDSHIP' reads,
'Tell me ye knowing and discerning few,
Where I may find a friend both firm and true,
Who will stand by me when in deep distrefs,
And then in love and Friendship most exprefs,'.
Signed and dated 'Jane Peacock. Aged Eight Years. 1832.'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden,
a dog,
birds,
flowers,
squirrels,
trees, hearts
and butterflies
CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes and losses to the edges.
No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground.
Some stitch losses to the border
and house motif.
Some of the colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition.
