Detailed description and pictorial study of Sampler

MOVE TO:

1949, Modern sampler by Patricia Ross

George VI, dated 1949. 11.5ins by 15.75ins. 1949, Modern sampler by Patricia Ross.

Framed in a modern wooden frame with glass. Stitched onto linen backing .

The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase, numbers 1-10.

Signed and dated "Patricia Ross 1949".

The 1 from the beginning and the 9 from the end have been cunningly removed by someone in an attempt to make the sampler seem older than it really is.

Floral border. The sampler is worked in fine silk threads throughout.

Red, blue, yellow, light brown, white, black, pink, green and grey colour threads used.

Motifs include dogs, trees, a butterfly, an owl, a swan

a cat, and a house with a garden.

CONDTION: Good. No holes whatsoever. A couple of patchy light stains, barely visible, less than 1 inch in size, in the top left hand side.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.

The silks still have their original bright glossy sheen.

No colour run. No stretching. Frame has very slight wear, not detracting, illustrated,

is otherwise sound and in my opinion ready to hang.
