George III, dated 1800. 9.75ins by 10.5ins fragment. 1800 House Sampler Fragment(?) by Elizabeth Pratt.

Unframed with no glass. Loose with no backing.
This is possibly a fragment of a larger sampler, however, verse, motifs, alphabets, numbers, the signature and date are all present.


The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-13.
Verse reads 'The Hero boasts with Lawrels Crown'd, Of conquests in the Field, the hardest task that can be found, To Industry must Yeild(sic)'.

Signed and dated "Elizabeth Pratt July 10 1800".


Floral border down the sides.


The sampler is worked in fine silk threads throughout.
Gold, green, dark brown, black, pink, silver and copper colour threads used.
A wonderful house motif with dogs standing either side

and also with fruit baskets either side.
CONDTION: Distressed.
A number of holes throughout the sampler, illustrated.






A couple of small, slight patchy stains.
No stitch losses. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
Very slight colour run to the green colour threads, barely noticable.
No stretching.
