George III, dated 1791. 7.25ins by 29.75ins. 1791 Band sampler by Mary Pacey Stanton.
Mounted into a wood veneered frame with glass. White linen backing to which the sampler is probably stitched onto.
Alphabets and numbers cover three quarters of the sampler.
The lords prayer is in the bottom quarter - 'Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name, Thy Kindom come, Thy will be done in Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this Day our daily bread And forgive us our Trespasses as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into Temptation But deliver us from Evil Amen.'
Signed and dated at the bottom 'Mary Pacey Stanton 1791'.
Divider lines in a variety of patterns and stitches. Stitched in silks throughout.
Copper, brown, green, purple and silver colours.
CONDTION: Good. A hole about half way down on the left hand side, illustrated, barely visible.
No stains. One very minor stitch loss the the number 5, not detracting, illustrated.
Colours are strong. No colour run. No stretching. The frame is in very good condition and the sampler is ready to hang on the wall.
