Unframed with no glass. Stitched onto linen backing.


The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case, numbers 1-12 and family initials.
Short epigram reads 'Everything we add to our knowledge adds to our means of usefulness.'.
Signed and dated in silk, "Barbara Murray Coldstream. May 18th 1860".

Place name Coldstream is mentioned. Coldstream is a Town right on the Scottish border with England, South East of Edinburgh.
Zig zag and lines border.
The sampler is worked in fine wool threads throughout. Blue, yellow, dark brown, purple, red and green colour threads used.
CONDTION: Good.
No holes.
One slight stain in the bottom right hand side, illustrated.

A few stitch losses to the border, divider lines and letters/numbers, illustrated.




Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading. No colour run. No stretching.
