MOVE TO:
19thC French alphabet sampler M.Huguenat
Victorian, dated 1894. 18ins by 15.75ins. Mounted into a dark stained wooden frame with glass. Stapled onto a wooden backing.
Alphabets and numerals cover most of the sampler.
Signed and dated 'marguerite huguenat agee de 12 ans - 65 bessborough street sw 27 octobre 1894 londres' (I wonder if the house is still there!)
Underneath 'PAPA MAMAN'.
Greek key border.
Stitched in red cotton like thread throughout.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. Four 0.25ins patches of freying, almost invisible to the eye. Pale stains in the top right hand side, illustrated
and in the bottom left, illustrated.
No stitch losses. Colour is slightly faded. No colour run. No stretching. Frame has some wear, but is structurally sound. Sampler is ready to hang.
