MOVE TO:
1798 silkwork motif sampler by Lucie Norman
George III, dated 1798. 16ins by 13ins. Mounted into an old, possibly original, gold painted wooden, glazed frame. Tacked onto a wooden backing.

The verse reads 'Id ? thy passion on bark And every wounded tree Shall drool and bear fome myftic mark That Jefus dyd for me. The fwains fhall wonder when they read. Infcribed on all the groves That Heavn itfelf came down and bled. To win a mortales love'.
A short verse at the bottom reads 'I have done this to let you fee, What my parents have done for me'.
Signed and dated 'Lucy Norman Was born April the 30 1786 and did this work in the 12 Year of age 1798'.


Flowers and diamonds border.

Stitched in silk. Dark green, pink, green, black, gold, silver colours used.
Motifs of birds perched on branches, flowering trees, potted flowers, hearts and crowns.



CONDITION: Slight patchy staining along the top border

and on the right hand side, illustrated.

No holes. Minor stitch losses to parts of the verse, illustrated and very minor stitch losses to two of the motifs, illustrated.
No colour run. Some stretching, worst illustrated.

The frame is in good condition and the sampler is ready to hang.
