Detailed description and pictorial study of Sampler

1815 Silkwork Sampler by Hannah Lister

George III, dated 1815. 12.5ins by 12.25ins. 1815 Silkwork Sampler by Hannah Lister.

Unframed with no glass. Loose with no backing. The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-10.

Verse reads 'This I have done to let you see, What care my Parents took of me, When I am dead and in my grave, This piece of work my friends shall have.'.

Signed and dated "Hannah Lister's Work aged 11 May 30 1815".

The sampler is worked in fine silk threads throughout.

Copper, gold, silver, pink, purple, green and black colour threads used.

A good set of motifs, including birds, hearts, a fruit basket and flowers.

CONDTION: Very Good.

No holes. Uniform darkening of the backing canvas.

No stitch losses.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.

The silks still have their original bright glossy sheen.

No colour run. No stretching.
