MOVE TO:
1849 Adam&Eve sampler by Anne Franklin
Victorian, dated 1849. 10.75ins by 16ins. Mounted into an old, ebonised wood, glazed frame.
Tacked onto a wooden backing.
A short verse reads 'In The Lord Put I My Trust. God Is Love. Jesus Wept'.
Signed and dated 'Anne Elizabeth Franklin She Was Born October The 19. 1849 Age 13 Y's'.
Meandering strawberry border.
Stitched in fine silk thread throughout. The sampler is embellished with ringlets, to parts of the work, illustrated.
Gold, silver, green, pink, brown, red, blue, pink and yellow colours.
Motifs include a large central Adam and Eve standing either side of the tree of life, which has a snake coiled around its trunk.
Birds, flowers,
fruit baskets,
potted plants and crowns.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. Very slight patchy stains, barely visible and not detracting, worst illustrated in pics above.
No stitch loss. Colours are still good and strong. No colour run. Slight stretching at the top, illustrated. The frame itself is in good condition. However the sampler has moved inside the frame, exposing the tacks and the wooden backing to the top, illustrated.
