MOVE TO:
1949 WWII Victory Sampler by Maud Evans
George VI, dated 1949. 12.5ins by 16.75ins. 1949 WWII Victory Sampler by Maud Evans.
Framed in an old, probably original, wooden frame with glass.
Loose mounted onto a paper backing.
The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and numbers 1-0.
The verse reads 'God Save the King. Send him victorious happy and glorious, long to reign over us, God save the King'.
Signed and dated "Worked by Maud Evans Born Nov.1.1870. June 1949".
Meandering acorn border.
The sampler is worked in wool and silk threads.
Blue, cream, green, light brown, copper, silver, black and grey colour threads used.
A good set of symbolic motifs, including a crown, a sailor,
an officer, a tank,
a spitfire plane,
a battleship, a nurse, an ambulance,
an elephant,
a chick, a lion, a deer and a squirrel.
CONDTION: Very Good.
No holes. No stains. No stitch losses.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.
No colour run. No stretching.
The frame has some wear, and the wood veneer has chipped off in places, illustrated,
but is structurally sound.
