MOVE TO:
Victorian Sampler by Elizabeth Barman
Victorian Sampler by Elizabeth Barman. Victorian, circa 1840. 9.75ins by 12ins. Unframed with no glass. Loose with no backing.

The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case with numbers 1-10. Short epigram reads 'Industry is the parent of every excellence.'

Signed and dated "Elizabeth Barman's work Aged 6 years March 18 18??". I believe the last two digits of the year are missing or later removed. The sampler is more typical of a later period, circa 1840. Double line border. The sampler is worked in red, green, black, pink, purple, brown and pale blue colour threads.

CONDTION: Slightly distressed. No holes. No stains. A few stitch losses to the signature, alphabet and divider lines, illustrated. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Some stretching, worst illustrated.
