MOVE TO:
1802 Silkwork sampler by Alice Bradburn
George III, dated 1802. 17.5ins by 21.25ins. An early 19th century needlework sampler.
Mounted into a hogarth frame, no glass.
Stitched onto a card backing.
The central verse reads 'While with regret we hear from day to day, Some much lov'd Friend by death is snatch'd away, May heaven assist us to improve from hence, These solomn warning strokes of providence.'
Signed and dated 'Alice Bradburn. Preston. 1802.'
Meandering floral strawberry border.
Stitched in fine silks throughout. Greens, blue, gold, copper, silver, brown, black and pink colours.
Unusual motifs of sheep under flowering trees,
partridges,
other birds, flowers,
potted flowering plants,
fruit baskets, and a group at the top wit a house with trees,
dogs, birds, stars
and underneath, castles with various other objects beside.
CONDTION: Good. No holes, but two small patches of freying, illustrated.
No staining and no stitch losses. Colours are good and strong. No colour run.
No stretching.
The frame is in good condition, but has no glass.
