1820's woolwork sampler by Ann Birkett

George IV, dated 182?. 10ins square, mounted into a modern, dark stained wooden frame with a gold inner border. Loose mounted onto a card backing.

Alphabets A-Z in uppercase, numbers 1-12, A-T, a-z lowercase and A-Q uppercase.

Signed and dated 'Ann Birkett. Aged 11 years. Troutbeck School. 182?'.

The last digit has gone through stitch loss.

Above this in algerian eye 'TROUTBECK'. This is in Englands lake district, North of Windermere.

Meandering strawberry border.

Stitched in wool, with the name and date in black silk.

Red, pink, green, orange, cyan, navy, brown and yellow colours.

Motifs of flowers.

CONDITION: No holes. No stains.

Extensive stitch losses, illustrated.

Colours are good and bright. No colour run. Some crinkling due to poor mounting. The frame is in very good condition and the sampler is ready to hang.
