description and pictorial study of Sampler
|
MOVE TO:
1829 Sampler by Ann Bell.
George IV, dated 1829. 8.25ins by 13.5ins. 1829 Sampler by Ann Bell.

Framed in an old, wooden frame with glass.
Tacked onto a wooden mounting frame and cardboard backing.

The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and lower case, numbers 1-8 and family initials.
Worked in a variety of stitches.
Signed and dated "Ann Bell Finished This Samplar(sic) In Cottage School May 1829".

Divider lines in a number of patterns.
The sampler is worked in fine wool threads throughout.
Red, green, blue and pink colour threads used.
A few motifs, include lions, fir trees and a bird.

CONDTION: Slightly distressed.
No holes. A couple of patchy light stains, barely visible.
The stains are in the middle left hand side and the bottom left hand corner.
A few stitch losses to the border, divider lines and letters/numbers, illustrated.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading.
No colour run. No stretching.
Frame has very slight wear, not detracting, illustrated,

is otherwise sound and in my opinion ready to hang.
