Victorian, dated 1853. 17.5ins by 15.5ins. 1853 sampler by Susannah Bamford.
Unframed with no glass. Loose no backing .
The sampler has alphabets A-Z in uppercase and numbers 1-0.
Worked in cross stitch throughout.
Signed and dated "Susannah Bamford 1853".
Meandering strawberry border.
The sampler is worked in wool threads throughout.
Black, red, purple, orange, green and yellow colour threads used.
Motifs include potted flowering plants,
birds and a fruit basket.
CONDTION: Slightly distressed. No holes. Two stains, one, less than 1.5 inches in size, in the bottom middle
and one in the bottom left hand corner.
A couple of stitch losses to motifs and letters/numbers, illustrated.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticable fading. No colour run. No stretching.
