Early 19thC alphabet sampler -Elizabeth Bailey
Early nineteenth century, circa 1820. 10ins by 11.5ins. Loose, unframed sampler.
Alphabets and numbers cover most of the sampler in a variety of different stitches.
Signed at the bottom 'ELIZABETH BAILEY'.
Divdier lines in a number of patterns and stitches.
Stitched in fine silks throughout.
Green, brown, cyan, pink, gold, silver, purple, black and orange colours. Hearts and a crown motif.
CONDITION: Good. No holes, no stains, although backing canvas has uniformly darkened. No stitch losses, although a few threads have come loose along the middle divider line, illustrated.
Colours are good and strong. No colour run and no stretching.
