MOVE TO:
1850 silkwork sampler by Ann Leah
Victorian, dated 1850. 17.25ins by 16ins. Mounted into an old, wood veneered frame with a gilt inlay and glass. The sampler is tacked onto a wooden backing.
Alphabet A-Z in stylised uppercase and numbers 1-7.
Signed and dated 'Ann Leah's work finished February 28th 1850'.
Flower and leaf, strawberry border.
Stitched in fine silk threads throughout.
Gold, silver, copper, greens and blue colours.
Motifs of flowering potted plants,
some with butterflies sitting on top,
birds and butterflies.
CONDITION: No holes. The backing canvas has darkened, inside the wooden frame, illustrated.
The sampler has no other stains. No stitch losses. Colours are good and strong. No colour run. No stretching. The frame is in good condition and the sampler is ready to hang.
