1766 Silkwork Sampler by Ann Atkins
George III, dated 1766. 17.25ins high by 12.5ins wide. Framed in a wood and gilt frame with glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.
The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours red, cream, gold, light green, dark green, pale blue, burgundy and black.
A Verse entitled 'The Lords Prayer' reads
'Our Father which art
in heaven Hallowed
be thy Name thy King
dom come thy will be
done in earth as it is in
heaven Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our
Trespasses as we forgive
them that trespass a
gainst us And lead us
not into temptation but
deliver us from evil for
thine is the Kingdom the
Power and the glory
forever and ever Amen'.
Signed and dated
'Ann Atkins 1766'.
A good set of motifs, including flowers,
birds,
potted flowering plants,
a butterfly
and a rabbit.
CONDITION: Good. A number of holes,
and losses to the ground to both bottom corners.
No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground.
No stitch losses, just a couple of loose threads.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition.
