Circa 1800 Miniature Sampler by Agness Farmer
George III, circa 1800. 7.5ins by 5.25ins wide. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.
The sampler is worked in cotton on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
No border.
Colours red, yellow, light brown, pink, purple, magenta, olive green and blue.
Signed 'AGNESS FARMER'.
A few motifs including potted flowering plants, flowers and birds.
Handwritten label to reverse which reads 'MY GREAT-GRANDMOTHER AGNES (NANCY) FARMER (or GIBSON).'.
CONDITION: Generally Fair. A number of holes.
One dark stain and uniform age darkening of the ground.
Stitch losses to the holed areas.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.
Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition.
