1829 Sampler by Ann Budd

George IV, dated 1829. 17.5ins by 13ins wide. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass.

Fixed to linen with cardboard dust cover.

The sampler is worked in silk and cotton on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours green, pale blue, light brown, dark brown, gold and cream.

Signed and dated

'Ann Budd. July 20 1829.'

A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden,

birds,

flowers,

potted flowering plants,

fruit trees,

fruit baskets,

fir trees, hearts, squirrels,

a butterfly

and angels.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A few small holes and some losses to the edges.

No stains. No stitch losses.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and could be hung as is.
