1844 Sampler by M.A. Kelland

Victorian, dated 1844. 15ins by 16ins wide. Framed in an old wood frame, with gilt slip and rippled, old glass.

Tacked to wood with wall paper dust cover.

The sampler is worked in wool and silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours red, yellow, pale blue, light brown, pink, light green, white, navy gray and black.

Signed and dated

'M.A.Kelland Work'd this Picture at S. Milman's School.

In the 8th Year Of her Age, January 20th 1844'.

A couple of motifs including a parrot perched on a branch,

and potted flowering plants.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. A few stain specks.

Minor stitch loss

and a couple of loose threads.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame showing some wear, but structurally sound and ready to hang.
