1827 Silkwork Sampler by P.S.B.
George IV, dated 1827. 16.25ins by 16ins wide. Framed in a wood frame with glass.
Stitched to fabric with chipboard dust cover.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Meandering leafy border.
Colours beige, cream, black, yellow and navy blue.
Signed with initials 'P.S.B' and dated 1827.
A good set of motifs, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk, birds,
angels,
stags,
a tree, heart, potted flowering plants,
butterflies
and fruit baskets.
CONDITION: Good. One hole.
One pale stain speck.
Minor stitch loss to the number '7' in the date.
Some of the colours are slightly faded. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame showing wear,
chips
and a dent along the bottom edge, but structurally sound and could be hung as is.
