1774 Silkwork House & Figure Sampler

George III, dated 1774. 11.75ins by 12.25ins wide. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Wonderful floral border.

Colours black, cream, dark green, pale green, copper, gold, white, magenta and pale blue.

Family initials.

Verse unreadable due to stitch loss.

Signature unreadable due to stitch loss.

Dated '1774'.

A wonderful set of motifs, including an unusually decorated figure knocking on the door of a house/school,

birds

and flowers.

CONDITION: Fair to Good. A number of holes, worst illustrated.

No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground.

Stitch losses to holed areas of border, verse, date and family initials, worst illustrated.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition.
