Circa 1850 Unfinished Alphabet & Motifs Sampler

Victorian, circa 1850. 19.25ins by 11.75ins wide. Unframed.

The sampler is worked in cotton on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple diamonds border.

Colours blue, cream, green, navy blue, light blue, light brown, white, cream and orange.

Alphabets A-Z in uppercase, and lower case a-d where sampler is unfinished.

No signature or date.

A good set of motifs, including birds,

potted flowering plants,

a fir tree,

crowns,

flowers

a butterfly

and a fruit basket.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains. Some loose threads to alphabets and motifs, illustrated.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Pale colours difficult to read. No colour run.
