Circa 1830 Motif Sampler
Circa 1830. 16.5ins high by 16.5ins wide. Framed in a modern wood veneer frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard dust cover.

The sampler is worked in fine wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.


Meandering strawberry border.

Colours red, cream, white, pink, pale green and dark green. No signature or date.
A wonderful set of motifs, including potted flowering plants, flowers, thistles,




a lion,

dogs, rabbits,


birds,




squirrels

and stars.

CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes, and slight pulling to the ground in places, worst illustrated.





Two pale stain specks, and some stains along top edge (possibly glue from previous mounting), illustrated.





Some stitch losses to the border and motifs, illustrated.












Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in very good condition.
