William IV, circa 1835. 12.75ins by 12.5inw wide. c.1835 Silkwork Baptism Sampler for Elizabeth Holman.Framed in an old, possibly original, thick wood frame with gilt slip and rippled, old glass.

Stitched to linen with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering strawberry border.

Colours black, green, navy blue, dark brown, pink, dark green and gold.

A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants,

stags,

crowns,

hearts,

fruit baskets and birds.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

One large hole at the top and several smaller holes throughout.

Dark staining along both sides.

Slight uniform age darkening inside the border.

Very minor stitch loss to the first line of the reading.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang.
